Where is the market located?
The Great Market Hallwas designed and built around 1897and is located at the end of the famous pedestrian shopping street the Váci utca and on the Pest side of the Liberty bridge at Fővám square.
The market offers a huge variety of stalls on three floors. The entrance gate is with neogothic touch.The area size of the building is 10,000 square meters, which is covered by steel structure and looks thereby attractive.
What can you buy at the market?
Most of the stalls on the ground floor offer vegetables, meats, pastries, chese, candies, spices, and spirits such as sweet paprika, tokaji wine, túró rudi, garlic garland. The second floor has mainly eateries and souvenirs. The lángos stand is located on this floor, serving the deep-fried snack lángos. The basement contains butcher shops, fish market, and pickles. Not only do they have traditional cucumber pickles, but they also offer pickled cauliflower, cabbage, beets, tomatoes, and garlic.
Hungarian fruits and vegetables
The picturesque lands of Hungary are characterized by a climate which is especially good for fruits of the temperate zone.The length of the growing season, the number of days with sunshine, the distribution of precipitation, the humidity of the air and the quality of the soil give fruits a special flavor. The typical and popular fruits used in Hungarian kitchen are the apple, pear, sour cherry, apricot and water melon. In summer season available vegetables from farmers’ market are the sweet red and white paprika, tomato, onion, garlic, cabbage, cauliflower and potato which are the base of Hungarian cuisine.

Hungarian Fish soup is prepared from carp and the fresh fish is available here at all seasons. However you can find here marine fish, shell and crabs but these are not tipically used in households. Souvenirs
Hungarian embroidery motives from Matyo and Kalocsa region of country is mainly sold as souvenirs to tourists these days. These cloths are exactly quite expensive therefore suggested to check whether it was prepared by manually or machine.
